Pkhex is a free game utility for PC made by an independent developer who goes by the name kwsch. It is a tool that can be used to edit game save files for various titles in the popular Pokemon monster training and collecting game franchise.

Similar to Pokemon Showdown, Pkhex is one of the many utilities being made for Pokemon by dedicated fans in the community. It makes it easy for anyone to edit their game save files, and make detailed changes to them on the fly through an intuitive user interface that offers plenty of options.

Manage your game saves

Pkhex is an open-source editor that you can use on save files for various mainline games in the Pokemon franchise. With it, you will be able to transfer data between saves, modify multiple aspects to your liking, and many more. It supports multiple formats, ranging from memory card files to entity files, and mystery gift files. It also comes with conversion options to help with compatibility across various versions.

There are five main tabs to navigate through in the app depending on what changes you want to make. Modify your Pokemon's name, level, abilities, and such from the Main tab. If you want to edit the location and date you met your Pokemon, you can do so from the Met section. You can then determine how strong their attributes are from the Stats page.

The Attacks tab is where you can set the move set for each of your Pokemon. Lastly, the OT/Misc section is for various things like Trainer information, ribbons, Pokemon memories, and others. Now, given the many options on offer here, there will be a slight learning curve at first. Thankfully, there are plenty of guides and tutorials from community forums and pages to help you out.

Overall, if you're a big fan of the Pokemon franchise and find yourself wanting a more custom gameplay experience, Pkhex is a worthwhile utility worth checking out. It gives you control over virtually every aspect of your Pokemon. It will be a little tricky to use at first, but it will be worth taking the time to learn it. This one's a must-have.
